Thought For The Day
“How we think shows through in how we act. Attitudes are mirrors of the mind. They reflect thinking.”
David J. Schwartz
I Have Been Thinking
Why pay someone else to make banners for you when it is so easy to learn and do using tools that are completely free for you to use.
Before you can craft a banner ad it is important to know what they are and why you would need one. Banners become very important to you if you are building a business online, but they are quite useful to use in your day to day computing. Suppose you want a graphic header for your stationery. Maybe you want to make a graphic to use in your email signature file. Crafting a banner is the first and easiest thing to do as an introduction to graphics.
What is a banner
You see ads all over the Internet. They are all wanting your attention so take a look at those things that do catch your attention. Are they bright? Are they flashy? Are they big or small?
Whatever they look like, they have the purpose of getting your attention and making your curious enough to click on it to look further.
Sizes of banner ads
There are standards in sizes for banners. The numbers indicate the sized in pixels. The first number is usually the length while the second number indicates the height.
- A header might be as big is 700X300
- Full Banner is 468X60
- Half Banner is 234X60
- Micro Button 88X31
- Square Button 125X125
It’s all about color and readability
Banners should be bright and eye catching. Believe it or not they are just geometrical shapes filled with color, then a message to grab someone’s attention. Lastly they tell you to do something like “Click Here”
Download a copy of Paint Net or Paint Shop Pro. Paint Net is free, Paint Shop Pro does offer a trial of the application. You can even use Paint that comes with your operating system to do this.
- Install the program
- Open it
- Draw a rectangle the size you want your banner to be
- Fill it with color
- Click on the text tool Write a title
- Write a tag line
- Save
What makes the great? When they do their job.
