Thought For The Day

If you have made mistakes, even serious ones, there is always another chance for you. What we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down.
–Mary Pickford

I Have Been Thinking

It seems that we live in a world where manners aren’t as important as they used to be. We went out to dinner last evening and couldn’t help but notice, there were a good many people waiting for a table. Several able bodied young men were sitting waiting while older women and men were standing. We were always taught to give up a seat for our elders. Online there are manner and protocols to pay attention to abide by them and you can go a long way toward achieving the success you want. Violate them and you can be blackballed just as easily.

Your Marketing Funnel

One of the biggest reasons you are using the internet at all is for marketing. You want to build your business, right? The Internet is one of the best methods to build your business, but you have to do it correctly. First of all think about how you process leads. Step 1: Meet someone, Step 2: Get acquainted, Step 3: Find out how you can help and finally Step 4: Sell him something that will fill the need. There are times when you go through these four steps very quickly. Other times it will just take time.

We have discussed the various types of lists. Interest lists are just one of them. When you meet someone for the first time because they were referred to you, of course you can talk products or services in the first meeting, that is what they are there for. If they are absolutely new to you, think about how they were contacted in the first place – Listen and Learn then Talk!

Building Relationships

Getting to know people on the Internet can come from many places. You activity can be passive or it can be very active. Leads lists are just that, they are leads. They are not customers. You will find that you will be building lists and more lists. Your customer list is by far your most valuable possession. Your customer and associate lists are worth their weight in gold.

There are many tools you can use to help build and manage the many lists you will be developing. Building the list require that you categorize the lists. Each category will receive different messages. You certainly wouldn’t talk to a brand new customer in the same way that you would talk to someone who has been working with you for a year or two would you?

Building online is still relationship building just as it is relationship building in the real world. If I get no other point through – that is the one point I hope everyone takes away.

Email

I have seen so many people make very crucial mistakes in their email. While email may be a lot more informal than a letter, it should still be written in a way that is easy to read. There are a few things to be aware of.

  1. Break up the paragraphs into small blocks of text. Short blocks of text using two or three sentences with some white space between them will make them much easier to read and respond to as well.
  2. Don’t use all caps. Caps denote shouting. They can be used to create an effect when used on certain words especially when sending your messages in text and not HTML. But, when used throughout the email, caps are very hard to read.
  3. Always use a signature file appropriate to the contact.

It was.

Grandma Wisdom

Do you remember and abide by the “Golden Rule”? Building strong relationships means applying this rule above all. Knowing people and working with others is not easy. You will be working with many personalities and even more emotions. You can never let your own emotions get in the way. I do think that is why we have two eyes to see everything around us, two ears to listen well to what people have to say, and one mouth with which to speak. Most of us have to learn when
