I Have Been Thinking
I have been working diligently on a new self study course to be presented by the Internet Niche Lab. Writing a course, even when working with someone elses product is still a lot of work. What is this new course all about? Well, it is about one of the most important skills anyone building a business needs to have. List building!
List building is an art and yes a science. First of all anyone building a business will know that there are many lists involved, not just one.
The newsletter list is probably the only one that is attracted by many people from many niches especially if the newsletter will help them to work their own niche better. The Winning Way news is one that addresses those that are building a business primarily on the Internet, but also those that have a real world business they are extending to the web. As such my articles cover many different topics having to do with business building.
There is no such thing as one message to all types of lists.
Lists should be specialized. A good letter will talk to one person. The more you know your lists, the easier it is to accomplish this personalized approach.
Lists can be made up from:
Prospects
Customers
Clients
Associates
Affiliates
Family
Friends
Acquaintences
and many more. I could probably go on and extend the page many lines with more list possibilities, but I think you get the picture.
Most list follow up will be sent using the autoresponder to do the followup. Messages are sent to the list over a period of weeks or months. Each message sent should engage the individual. Sending the wrong message to the right list can lose not only your potential customers, but your reputation as well.
One thing that used to irk me was to be on a prospect list. I would buy something, but still receive prospecting type of messages. As soon as a person becomes a customer, they should immediately go onto a customer list and taken off the prospect list.
The other thing is receiving messages intended for men sent to women. That isn’t knowing your audience.
There is much to learn when it comes to building lists, using an autoresponder the right way, and of course managing your lists so they will produce what you are after and that of course is sales.

Tip
Tell your story with pictures. Photo Story from Microsoft is a great little application that will assist you in creating a slideshow that turns digital images into stories for family and friends. Photo Story is part of tthe MS genuine advantage program, so to run it, you must install a validation applet that lest Microsoft inspect your system for pirated Windows software. The applet doesn’t hurt anything or affect performance, it just makes you eligible for a range of cool freebies.
