Accessing Personality Types

I Have Been Thinking
A very big part of developing rapport with a new client is getting in tune with the way he or she “does” business. Accessing a clients personality is just one of those vital steps.
Is you prospective client a facts and figures person? Is he or she very visual, having to see what it is you will be talking about? Is your prospective client very social. Knowing these things ahead of time will help you in creating the right presentation for the right individual.
My Grandfather advised me oh so many years ago in the art of finding a good husband. He said there are a few things you should watch very carefully.
1. How does he act when under the influence. (No I would never recommend that you take you client out and get him drunk). It is amazing however, how much you learn about a person when they “let go.”
2. How does he act when in a stressful situation. I can learn more about a person in 10 minutes in traffic than I can in 40 minutes behind a desk.
3. Bring up a highly volitile piece of current news, then listen. You can learn a lot in about 3 minutes by listening to his reaction. Oh and by the way, when you do this please don’t express your own considerations. Just listen, acknowledge and watch the body language.
I beleive one of my favorite stories was tied up in, “you have two eyes to watch, to ears to listen and one mouth with which to talk. The point of the story, look and listen twice as much as you talk.

Resurrection
A pastor was speaking to a group of second-graders about the resurrection of Jesus when one student asked, “What did Jesus say right after He came out of the grave?”
The pastor explained that the Gospels do not tell us what He said.
The hand of one little girl shot up. “I know what He said:
He said, ‘Tah-dah!’”

Tips and Techniques
Practice listening. Have someone read to you from a book or article you have never read. Listen only a paragraph at a time, then explain what you just heard. When you believe you are getting good at this find people who read and speak very quickly, then in a monotone, a woman’s voice that is very high pitched and finally a man’s bass. Who can you listen to easily and how can you improve your listening ration.
