Good Morning!
I Have Been Thinking
There is a great program on TV that I have gotten hooked on recently. I don’t know if it is new or not because I really don’t watch much television except old reliable programs.
The program is called The Mentalist. It is most interesting watching this man at work. I can’t help but wonder if there really is anyone out there that is as observant he plays the part.
One of the most important skills we have to have to communicate well is good ovservation skills. Do you really see what you are looking at?
Try this little exercise. Get someone to work with you to do this exercise because it does in fact take two.
Walk into a store or a restaurant, look around for one minute then walk out. Tell your friend exactly what you saw. How many people were in the room? What was the person nearest you wearing? Tell him / her only what you saw.
This is a drill that most nurses have to do, many of them fail the first few times. You cannot see pain? What else would you see? You do not see fear. What would you see?

Ice Breakers
Tax Season
Tax day — April 15 — was looming when an elderly woman showed up at the IRS. She said she required a thick stack of tax forms. “Why so many?” the clerk asked.
“My son is stationed overseas,” she said. “He asked me to pick up forms for the Marines on the base.”
“You shouldn’t have to do this,” the clerk told her. “It’s the base commander’s job to make sure that his troops have access to the forms they need.”
“I know,” said the woman. “I’m the base commander’s mother.”

Tips and Techniques
Observing is one of the most important skills you can have as a consultant. A consultant who cannot see will never come up with workable solutions.
