Thought For The Day
“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”
–Ralph Waldo Emerson
I Have Been Thinking
Every activity begins with a project of some kind. When you work on the Internet, projects and project management will be the processes that help you to keep your sanity and they are the only way to accomplish some very important goals.
So how do you decide what to do and when?
Your first project, of course will be to build your Internet store. Just like opening a business in the real world, you have to find a place for your store, right? But is that really the first thing you do?
You probably have done the first thing in your head without really thinking about it. First things first, what business are you in? It has to be identified specifically. In the real world you would know to say, I am opening a flower shop, or a grocery store, or whatever kind of shop it is. It is no different in the Internet world. What kind of store are you opening. Generally it is something you enjoy doing or do well although this isn’t an essential point. If you are willing anything can be learned.
Once you have identified your business, you can now think about how you are going to build your store, what products go into it, how you wnat to present your store’s image to the world and of course your business plan. Each of these things are a project of their own.
What is a project?
A project is a step by step action plan outlining the exact steps to reach a given goal. It begins with an exact description of the end result. The clearer you can make this description, the easier it is to write out the steps in the correct order they need to be accomplished.
The next action is to decide how long you want to take to accomplish this project. Can you imagine a construction company telling you that they have no idea how long it will take to build or remodel your store? Most projects should be completed in a month. A mini project should be able to be completed in a number of hours.
A real world store might take a number of months to build. There would be an architect who draws very detailed plans. There is a construction project manager that oversees the entire process and ensures that the project is brought to completion on time.
It is really quite simple once you get the hang of it

Ice Breakers
Hand
Our National Guard unit is long on officers and short
on enlisted men, so lieutenants often help load trucks
or do other manual labor.
As we were preparing for summer camp, a couple of
sergeants muscling a trunk up a flight of stairs spotted
a junior officer. “Hey, lieutenant,” one called out, “can
you give us a hand?”
“Sure,” he replied. “What do you want me to do –
supervise or delegate?”
Tip
Think about one of the routine actions you do every day. Now break it down into all of the action steps it took to achieve the outcome. Once you do this exercise a couple of times, you will understand exactly how to write a project and list the action steps in order.
