Thought For The Day
The beginning is the most important part of any work.
-Plato
I Have Been Thinking
What is the beginning for you? Is it when you think about doing a project? Is it when you write down your project? or is it when you actually do the first step of your project? Do you believe it is actually different for everyone?
Sure beginning an activity is thinking about what you want to do in the first place, but thinking doesn’t really get you anywhere. You can design the greatest plans in the universe. Planning can go on forever. Planning can get caught up in over-analyzing whether or not the project will ever work. The beginning is taking that first step, it is sticking your neck out to just do something even if it is wrong, do something.
Unfortuantely for many that first step is like taking a step off the roof of a ten story building. Just look at the word “DO.” It is an action verb. It is a powerful word. And, it becomes even more powerful when you add “NE” to it.
Are you a list manager? In other words do you make an action list of things to do today? I know that I am. I couldn’t operate without lists or checklist. As I get older, I depend on them even more. It is silly I know, but when I write a shopping list, even if I go off and leave it on the table, I tend to remember more of what I had to pick up at the store than if I don’t write the list at all. Writing a shopping list will also make it easier to stay within my budget.
Running a business, in my humble opinion absolutely requires lists. The first one is you daily to do. For most business people I have recommended the Maginificient Seven and the daily top ten. They are my rudder and compass.
Do you write you daily plan first thing in the morning or last thing at night? Do you write you plan when you think about it? I hate to say it, but most people don’t do it at all and then wonder why they never accomplish anything of any importance.
Take the time to write the daily action plan including the daily top 10, mark them off at the end of the day with a big ___DONE__ and I can almost guarantee the more red you see, the more green you will see.

Ice Breakers
Sunday Morning Service…
The minister gave his Sunday morning service, as
usual, but this particular Sunday, it was considerably
longer than normal. Later, at the door, shaking hands
with parishioners as they moved out, one man said,
“Your sermon, Pastor, was simply wonderful……..
so invigorating and inspiring and refreshing.”
The minister of course, broke out in a big smile,
only to hear the man say,
“Why I felt like a new man when I woke up!”
Tip
At the end of each day write your action plan for tomorrow, then summarize your accomplishments from today.
Happy Designing
