It’s Just A Little Thing

Thought For The Day

“In all affairs it’s a healthy thing now and then to hang a question mark on the things you have long taken for granted.”
– Bertrand Russell

I Have Been Thinking

Russell What does it mean to take things for granted?

The idiom definitions for ‘Take for granted’

“If you take something for granted, you don’t worry or think about it because you assume you will always have it.  If you take someone for granted, you don’t show your appreciation to them.”  (http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/take+for+granted.html)

Living with appreciation of all things is another habit we need to form.  Remember yesterday I spoke a little about the little things.  There are little things like saying “please” and “thank-you.”  It is a little things like telling your wife what a great meal she prepared. But, what can that little thing do? It can encourage her to make even better meals.

Intuition cannot be taken for granted

When you feel strongly about something without logical basis to it, that’s called intuition. Intuition is another thing we take for granted and often put it out of our mind without acting on it.  I ask you how long can you go without paying attention will it take before it is lost to you?  Sensing clearly is basically what we refer to as “hunch” or “gut feel.” This is the time when you are overwhelmed with a feeling and you can’t explain it and all you can say is “I just know.”  Do you act on the feeling?  Do you make note of it to analyze later? or Do you put it out of your mind?

Don’t take your observations for granted. Intuition through observation is being able to “listen” between the lines.  When you are aware of body language, your surroundings and of course your own feelings you can develop a keep sense of intuition.

Why the need to develop intuition, you ask? Why not let your emotional and psychological state as it is? First and foremost, intuition promotes good communication. It makes you more sensitive to the people around you; it often keeps you from hurting those you love because you are intuitive enough to understand them. Intuition also makes you far more creative than ever. Intuition means releasing more creative juices for any means of expression. Lastly, intuition has a healing power. This healing power is not in the physical sense, but in delving deep into your soul to eradicate some negative energy buried in it.

A worry-free, fear-free state could do so much to improve your intuitive ability. By staying positive, you attract good energy that would be able to easily recognize imminent feelings and events.

Believe in your first impressions. When you see someone for the first time and think that he is a bit too arrogant for your taste, chances are that impression actually holds true. Most of the time, first impressions are brought by intuition. When you perceive something is too good to be true, it probably is.  First impressions come deep from inside you.

I have found that it isn’t always the big things that make a big difference, but the tiny little things along the way that make all hte difference in the world.

Ice Breakers

You know you live in a small town when…

  • The “road hog” in front of you on Main Street is a farmer’s combine.
  • The local phone book has only one yellow page.
  • Third Street is on the edge of town.
  • You leave your jacket on the back of the chair in the cafe, and  when you go back the next day, it’s still there, on the same chair.
  • You don’t signal turns because everyone knows where you’re going, anyway.
  • No social events can be scheduled when the school gym floor is being varnished.
  • You call a wrong number and they supply you with the correct one.
  • Everyone knows all the news before it’s published; they just read the hometown paper to see whether the publisher got it right.

 Tip

What do you tend to take for granted?  Do you put off until tomorrow, because you know that tomorrow will come?  Your spouse, because he know he or she will always be there. Your children, because you know they won’t grow up for another twenty years.  A very wise woman told me once, “fifty years may look like a long time looking forward, but it is nothing looking back.”
