Thought For The Day
“Aerodynamically the bumblebee shouldn’t be able to fly, but the bumblebee doesn’t know that so it goes on flying anyway.”
– Mary Kay Ash
I Have Been Thinking
Many people see the wisdom is starting out the day with their attitude on straight and even following a reasonable plan for getting what they have to do during the day. How do you end your day?
It may not be quite as ovvious why getting ready for bed is as important as what you did to start your day. If you end your day with as much diligence as you begin your day, I dare say that you will have mastered the techniques necessary to propel yourself to eventual success.
Going to bed at night in the right frame of mind won’t just give you a good restful night’s sleep, but so much more. There is more than just brushing your teeth, getting into your favorite jammie. The process of taking on the weight of the past is unmistakable. Very early in the day, something may not have gone as well as you might have hoped. Are you taking regret to bed with you? Are you worried about something that may or may not happen tomorrow? Worry does not make for good company.
When you are going to bed your goals should be to rest your mind, not to force your body to sleep. My gramma tought me, a few things about going to sleep at night.
1. Never go to be angry at anyone. If there was an upset that wasn’t set straight. Be the big person you are and apologize. A very simple, “I know things did not go well between us today and I just want to say, I’m sorry.”
2. If you find your mind wandering to some worry or concern. Change it. Think about something very relaxing like the sound of a brook or listen carefully to the crickets. Purposly say to your mind – “stop!” then think about something else. Don’t for goodness sake fight with yourself. simply turn your thoughts from discord to harmony. I tend to do that quite literaly. I listen to the worry or concern as a sour note, then replace it with a harmonious chord.
3. Say your prayers. I hope that you didn’t stop doing that when you grew up. Some people may call them affirmations, some practice yoga or trancidental meditation. Put your mind into a state of relaxation and clam.
4. Decide that you will wake in the morning refreshed and ready for the new day. It is how we live our lives that matter, not just our activities.

Tip
Have you crafted you own elevator talk? What if you met the head of a company you have been working on closing for months and haven’t been able to get past his secretary, what could you say in the short time it takes the elevator to get where it is going to influence this person to talk to you?
