Thought For The Day
”Do not fear mistakes, there are none.”
– Miles Davis
I Have Been Thinking
You would think I would be an old hat at making changes, but let me tell you although I know changes are inevitable radical changes are more than just frightening.
For a major change to be accepted and acceptable what must be present? I look at the current move from WV to FL and have had to ask myself a few questions and do some soul searching.
First of all the change has to provide more or better. We are all looking to improve who we are and what we have in our surroundings. Sanford FL certainly has fit that description compared to WV. My new home is like living in a park with Lake Monroe just across the street. It is hot here, but the air conditioning is certainly better. There are times when you can see the change will be more and better. There are times when you can’t see that until you are in the big middle of the change in progress. Take a deep breath and assess the differences.
Secondly the change will present with problems and in those problems there is opportunity. Opportunity abounds everywhere. Ask yourself, what good can come out of…? The opportunity will present itself if we are willing to look and trust in that good.
My grandson has been very upset about leaving good friends behind and afraid that he will not meet new friends. My advice t,o him was go to the pool or the playground and take your ball. Be a friend first and you will have friends. It is true in business as well. Go where you prospects area and take your ball. Getting out and meeting new people is not always an easy thing to do, but is can be done. I had to give myself the same advice. Getting acquainted as a new comer in a new community is no different than getting known on the Internet. Go to the pool and take your ball!

Leaning Left
I have this friend who always seemed to lean
slightly to the left all the time. It used to bother
me, so I suggested he see a doctor, and have
his legs checked out.
For years, he refused… told me I was crazy.
But last week, he finally went, and sure enough,
the doctor discovered his left leg was 1/4 of an
inch shorter than his right. A quick bit of
orthopedic surgery later, he was cured, and
both legs are exactly the same length now, and
he no longer leans.
“So,” I said, “You didn’t believe me when I told
you a doctor could fix your leg.”
He just looked at me and said, “I, stand corrected.”
Tip
Your background as a counselor and your explanations can reinforce your expertise. Because you regularly see clients with very specific problems in the industry you have chosen, you will have more expertise obviously than the client you are working with. If you can recommend a book that your client can use as reference material then reinforce the strategies from the book, it will enhance your advice.
