Thought For The Day

“Hard things are put in our way, not to stop us, but to call out our courage and strength.”

I Have Been Thinking

I can remember a time when we didn’t have to lock the doors at night. It was okay to leave the keys in the car. You didn’t have to have a leash on the kids for fear that someone would snag them. School was a very safe place. We just don’t live in that world any more. We live in a world where we have to be strong.

One thing every one of us has to learn at some point or another is how to have ‘what it takes.”

To overcome the dragons, the ghosts and our inner demons is one thing. To overcome our doubts and do what has to be done to succeed can present the greatest challenge of all. Most of us want to be successful.

Actually there are two types of people those that are tender minded and those that that can develop an inner strength and tough mindedness.  It is an acquired mind set. Most are not born with it.

No one likes to be criticized.  The tender minded individual will take offence. He or she will shy away. She has a tendancy to cry, He will have a tendancy to just get angry.  The tough minded person, what does he do?  He doesn’t like criticisism any more than the other guy. He might resent the criticisism, but will soon see an opportunity in it. He will overcome whatever is going on in his mind, call up whatever strength of convistion he needs and go on to make a difference.

What about when faced with a challenge. The tender minded guy just folds and crys that it can’t be done.  The other will muster up all of the inner strength he needs to push through the barriers and do it anyway. Even if he is bone tired, if the aim is to win a race, he won’t quit until he has finished the race.

Becoming tough minded is a skill that is learned. It is learned by going through, understanding and overcoming ____ that makes us all a success.  There are a couple of quotes that come to mind, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”   The other one “Winners never quit and quitters never win.”  I don’t remember who said them, but  ask anyone who have defeated a demon or slain his dragon and they will tell you that at some point they decided to be strong.  Real strength is in you, learn to tap into it.

Ice Breakers

The 10 Commandments

A Sunday school teacher was discussing the
Ten Commandments with her five and six year
olds. After explaining the commandment to
“honor thy father and thy mother,” she asked,
“is there a commandment that teaches us how
to treat our brothers and sisters?”

Without missing a beat one little boy (the oldest
of a family of seven) answered, “Thou shall not
kill!”

 Tip

Do you have a tough situation you are working through? I challenge you to call up that inner strength and tough-mindedness to defeat this situation. Think about a time when you were exhaulted at defeating the monster within. If you did it once you can do it again.
