The goal of the first meeting
In any consulting practice the goal of the first meeting is to learn about the contact! I think it was Zig Ziglar that said, “God gave you two ears to listen with and one mouth to talk with. That should give you a clue in working with people!” How do you know if your _____ will even solve a problem for the suspect until you find out why he agreed to talk to you anyway?
Begin the conversation in your first meeting with, “tell me about yourself!” That is one thing I learned about people early on. They are always interested in talking about themselves. Oh yes, and MLMers are more than willing to talk for hours about their business or company. I listen very carefully taking mental notes. I will also repeat back things like, “let me see if I understand what you are saying.” When he has spoken and I have listened, my next question might be something like, “are you getting the results you expected from ____?
