Designing – the rules

Good Morning!
I Have Been Thinking

Many guidelines for designing Web pages can be found in the world wide web. Based on the usability problems encountered. (http://www.456bereastreet.com/archive/200711/common _usability_problems/)

I have written a list of guidelines for designing Web pages and will go over several points this week

Page Headers

Any page headers should not take more than 25% of a letter size page. The header I am speaking of usually contains a graphic and logo for the business. This is eyecatching as far as design is concerned, but for the low vision folks the Alt tag is important. Use a keyword rich description of the header and logo.

Another major consideration when designing Web pages for use with screen readers is to understand that a screen reader reads information line-by-line, from left to right, just like we do when we read standard text out of a book.

Consider the following factors when designing web pages that will be printed.
Keep the width to 650 and not more than 750 px
Use high contrast
Use larger print

Rank

While visiting my son on his Army base, I chatted with a colleague of his. “What rank are you?” I asked.

“I’m relieved to say that I’ve just been promoted from captain to major.”

“Relieved? Why?”

“Because,” he replied, “my last name is Hook.”
